The
wrapped spring hinge of our frictional
hinges is comprised of a housing, inner drum (hub),
and a stepped spring. The larger diameter step, nests inside
the housing while the smaller diameter spring step fits
tightly over the inner drum. The housing and inner drum
are therefore effectively coupled together by the spring.
When the inner drum is rotated in one direction, the small
diameter spring step rotates together with it, while the
large diameter spring step slips inside the housing. When
the drum Direction is reversed the large spring diameter
step locks inside the housing and the small spring diameter
step slips over the inner drum. The slip torque is the rated
torque of the hinge and represents the maximum unbalanced
load torque the hinge will support. The spring-wrapped,
friction
braked hinge is ideally suited in applications requiring
the maintenance of an unbalanced torque load in any desired
position, through 360º, about a given rotary axis.
The
miniature
wrap spring hinge is comprised of one or several hexagon
shaped housings, one or several wrap springs, a shaft, and
two end elements. The wrap springs couple the housings to
the shaft and simultaneously provide the limit torques for
the hinge.
